Prince Rupert Sparkles During Winterfest

trees dressed in christmas lightsThe 23rd annual Winterfest is almost here! Prince Rupert’s beloved annual festival is a great way to add a little jolly to your holiday season.

The 2018 festival runs November 30th – Dec 1st, throughout downtown.

Visitors and locals, alike, find plenty of reasons to be merry during this community celebration!

Here at the Crest, our halls will be decked, and we invite all of our guests to come out and enjoy the festivities.

Get into the spirit of the season with Christmas carolling, candy canes and cocoa (you’re on vacation –sing as loudly as you like)!

Be inspired by the official Lighting of the Trees at the Prince Rupert Courthouse, just down the street from the Crest.

Even St. Nick makes a special early visit to PR on Saturday morning. Bring the kids to whisper their Christmas wishes and join the jolly old elf for a pancake breakfast. Or catch a glimpse of him (and many other festive floats, dancers, musicians, and more!) in the annual Santa Claus Parade!

Splash or skate at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre on Saturday afternoon, or visit the Christmas Craft Fair to find unique gifts for everyone on your list.

Warm your bellies at the Wheelhouse’s Fire in Wheelhouse chile cooking contest (is there a better meal for a chilly winter night?).

Don’t miss the highlight of the weekend on Saturday evening, when the harbour transforms into a twinkling show! Local sailboats, aglow with Christmas lights and seasonal decorations, parade along the harbour. Then an incredible fireworks celebration soars overhead, reflecting on the mirror-like waters of Canada’s deepest year-round harbour, creating our own, festive version of the Northern Lights! The Sailpast flows right in front of the Crest (or head up the street to Mariner’s Park), and is sure to inspire.

What’s a holiday party without dancing? Grownups can tuck the little ones in bed and dance the night away at Winterfest Vinyl Night!

At the end of the night, enjoy a cup of Christmas cheer next to our lobby fireplace, and discover visions of sugarplums as you rest in our oh-so-comfortable guest rooms (even the reindeer won’t wake you!).

We always look forward to this time of year, when our lovely town transforms into a winter wonderland –it’s an event not to be missed.

All Winterfest events are free to the public. Prince Rupert is proud to help warm the hearts of every member of the community this season.
